Owner, Jennifer Elmer, has been in the business for over fifteen years. Towards the end of a criminal justice degree at UIC Jennifer decided to embark upon her dream of becoming a chef. She left her office job and got a job washing dishes at a south side restaurant in hopes of promotion. Within a couple of months she was prepping food with high hopes someone would call off so she could work the line. This happened sooner that she thought as she was offered the position after the first night on the line. Since then she has attended the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago and earned her Associates degree in Culinary, certified Le Cordon Bleu. She continues to take continuing education courses as she feels there is never a limit when it comes to learning. Jennifer has expanded her experience in the hotel environment in downtown Chicago and then journeyed on to the world of catering. She worked her way up in the kitchen as she managed over 50 off premise chefs. Shortly after giving birth to her pride and joy, Travis, Jennifer decided it was time ease into her business. Late one evening, on an espresso fix, Jennifer heard Sweet Home Chicago playing on the radio. It was then she knew exactly what she wanted within her business. Sweet Grown Chicago was born that evening. A catering business that not only provides great food and service, but also supports local and organic farming, has the highest respect for employees, and is constantly striving to make all aspects of catering more eco friendly.
